Zoho Mail ActiveSync setup for Outlook 365

Zoho Mail Server and Office 365 Outlook - ActiveSync setup

THIS MAY NO LONGER BE AN OPTION IN THE LATEST VERSION OF OUTLOOK. I CAN RECOMMEND DOWNLOADING ZOHO MAIL DESKTOP LITE (https://www.zoho.com/mail/desktop)

Settings on Zoho Mail server

First, in the Zoho Mail server, we need to ensure ActiveSync is enabled. Do this by going to the Zoho Mail Control Panel and select Mail Accounts (https://mail.zoho.com/cpanel/index.do#mailaccounts). Click on the account you wish to enable ActiveSync for, and click to enable ActiveSync.

Settings in Registry of Windows computer

In Office365, Microsoft has disabled the manual configuration of ActiceSync/Exchange servers. However, with Zoho Mail server, we do need to re-enable the manual configuration. To do this, one additional entry needs to be made in the Registy of Windows. This entry is in the following registry node: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Setup
Add a new dword (32-bit) value named DisableOffice365SimplifiedAccountCreation. Double click the value and set the decimal value to 1.

Alternatively, you can double click the attached registry file (this will add the entry for you).

Setting up Outlook

In Outlook, create a new mail account by going to File, and click Add Account.
In the dialog that opens, select Manual Setup.

Click next. In the following dialog, select Exchange ActiveSync.

Click next. Now the final dialog opens, were you can set your account and server information.

Enter your name (this will be displayed in the emails you send), and your email address. For the mail server, enter msync.zoho.com - this is the address for the Zoho ActiveSync server.

The mail server msync.zoho.com is based on the US data center. If you are not sure what data center you are in, log into CRM, and check the url. It will start with crm.zoho.com for US data center, crm.zoho.eu for European, crm.zoho.com.au for Australian. Change the server settings accordingly (i.e. msync.zoho.eu for European, msync.zoho.com.au for Australian).

Enter your user name (this is again your email address) - and your password. NOTE: if you have two factor authentication enabled, you must follow these instructions: https://www.zoho.com/mail/help/adminconsole/two-factor-authentication.html#alink5

When you are ready, click next - and your account is set up - you can use this like any other Exchange account in Outlook. All your emails, contacts, and calendar entries will sync between Outlook and Zoho Mail server.
