Set up Zoho Mail in Office 365 Outlook with ActiveSync

Connect Office 365 Outlook on Windows to your Zoho Mail account with Exchange ActiveSync, so your emails, contacts and calendar sync between Outlook and Zoho Mail.

This may no longer work in the latest version of Outlook. We recommend Zoho Mail Desktop Lite instead.

Before you start

  • You need Office 365 Outlook on Windows.
  • You need to know which Zoho data centre your organisation uses. See the table in step 3.
  • If you use two-factor authentication, generate an application-specific password first. See Application-specific passwords in the Zoho Mail help.

Step 1: Turn on ActiveSync in Zoho Mail

  1. Open the Zoho Mail Control Panel and go to Mail Accounts.
  2. Click the account you want to use with Outlook.
  3. Turn on ActiveSync for that account.

Step 2: Allow manual account setup in the Windows registry

Office 365 turns off manual setup of ActiveSync and Exchange accounts. To use the Zoho Mail server, turn it back on with one registry entry.

  1. Open the Registry Editor and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Setup.
  2. Add a new DWORD (32-bit) value named DisableOffice365SimplifiedAccountCreation.
  3. Double-click the value and set its decimal value to 1.

Alternatively, double-click the registry file attached to this article (EnableManualAccountCreationOutlook.reg). It adds the entry for you.

Step 3: Add the account in Outlook

  1. In Outlook, go to File and click Add Account.
  2. Select Manual Setup and click Next.
  1. Select Exchange ActiveSync and click Next.
  1. Enter your account and server details:
    • Your Name: the name shown on emails you send.
    • Email Address: your Zoho Mail address.
    • Mail server: the Zoho ActiveSync server for your data centre (see the table below).
    • User Name: your email address again.
    • Password: your Zoho password, or your application-specific password if you use two-factor authentication.

If you're not sure which data centre you're in, log in to Zoho CRM and check the web address.
  1. Click Next. Outlook sets up the account.

Result

You can use the account like any other Exchange account in Outlook. Your emails, contacts and calendar entries sync between Outlook and the Zoho Mail server.
